 | Frequently Asked QuestionsHere at WhichOilSupplier.co.uk HQ we’re often quizzed with regards to home heating oil and we try to help out if we can. We’d love you to get in touch if you have a query that’s not listed below. If you have suggestions for the website or any ideas for what we could be doing next, please email Mark.
Listed below are some of the things we’re frequently asked:
What type of fuel do I need?
There are two main types of heating oil which is also known as boiler juice, 28-Second, Burning Oil and Standard Kero. The majority of homes run on Kerosene (also known as 28 second oil) which is a liquid fuel similar in composition to diesel, obtained from the distillation of crude oil. Another product is gas oil or red diesel (also known as 35 second oil) which is more common for agricultural and industrial uses.
WhichOilSupplier.co.uk is aimed at the home heating market and only provides prices for Kerosene.
Are you owned by an oil company?
No, WhichOilSupplier is a truly independent organisation with no affiliation to any oil supplier.
How is your website funded ?
Most price comparison sites operating in the heating oil market are funded via commissions paid to the site from oil suppliers. This is not the case at WhichOilSupplier and we receive no income at all from suppliers. No commissions, no annual fee, no advertising charges, nothing. The costs to run this site are met by displaying Google adverts on every page. When visitors click on these links we receive a small payment.
Our price comparison site was created by consumers for consumers and we have never made a financial profit from the website. Chris, Mark and Paul, who manage the site, do so on a pro bono basis and receive no income for their time.
How do I order?
On our Home Page simply enter your postcode, how many litres you’d like and your e-mail address. Our automated system then displays the latest prices for all of the participating suppliers delivering in your area. Once you’ve chosen a supplier enter a few more details and we’ll arrange for the supplier to contact you to arrange delivery and take payment.
What is the minimum delivery?
The minimum delivery by tanker is 500 litres. However, the larger the delivery the more money you could save. Domestic tanks typically range in size from 500 to 2500 litres.
How long is the hose from the tanker to the tank?
Most standard tanker hoses are approximately 30m.
Unusual Deliveries
Such as for deliveries through a property, where a long hose is required, locked gates, bulk orders, dogs, tennented property etc please inform the supplier when they contact you to avoid any unnecessary delays or extra costs.
What is your delivery area?
The site has been designed to cover all of the UK.
The price you have quoted me is not the cheapest I can find. Why is this?
The oil market is very competitive and suppliers regularly change their prices throughout the day. We rely on our suppliers to give us their most competitive prices. We are not always able to guarantee that our participating suppliers have the cheapest price on the market. However, we are always happy to receive details from you about local suppliers you would recommend. Send us their details and we will ask them to join our growing list of participating suppliers. We are striving to make the market as transparent as possible for the customer.
Payment
We do not take any payment, or payment details, from customers. We simply pass on your contact details to your chosen supplier.
Any refunds or payment issues should be dealt with directly with your chosen supplier.
The supplier did not deliver the full order
The amount of any under-delivery will be refunded once the delivery has been confirmed by the supplier.
I've ordered more than my tank will hold
The amount of any under-delivery will be refunded to you. However, If the amount ordered is considerably more than your tank will hold the supplier reserves the right to increase the price per litre.
I would like to cancel my order. How do I go about this?
It may be possible to cancel it as long as the supplier agrees and has not already begun delivery. Please email your chosen supplier directly – their details will be on the order confirmation email we sent you when you placed your order.
How do I know how much oil was delivered?
All deliveries are monitored by the tanker's meter and regulated by trading standards. Your delivery ticket will show you the actual amount of oil delivered, and this will be left with you by the supplier.
